Ed Emshwiller (1925-1990) was one of the founders of video art. He sought to create an alternative technological language; by combining synthesizers and computers, he wanted to demonstrate the transformational property of media in connection with technology at a personal and symbolic level. This synthesis can be seen in his works Scape-mates (1972) and Sunstone (1979).
