WANG Chu-chin (Taiwan)

WANG Chu-chin was born in Shanghai on 24 March 1944. He moved to Hong Kong with his family in 1953, later settling down in Taiwan. WANG developed a deep interest in animation when he was studying art at the Taipei Municipal Vocational High School, and began working as a designer at an advertisement company after graduating from the National Taiwan Academy of Arts in 1968. In 1973, WANG founded Zhen Dan Film and Television Company, and was involved in the production of many episodes of Fragrant Formosa. In 1979, WANG's fictional feature film The Legend of the Six Dynasty won the 17th Golden Horse Award for Best Director, and was selected as the Taiwanese entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He eventually left the Taiwanese filmmaking scene in the late 1980s.
