Jordan Todorov (Bulgaria)

Jordan TODOROV is a Bulgarian documentary filmmaker, screenwriter, and journalist. He graduated with an MA in Film Studies from the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2003.

Todorov made his writing and directing debut with Concrete Pharaohs (2010), a picturesque documentary about the Kalderash Roma – a closed community of no more than one million people all over the world. The film was produced by the Bulgarian company AGITPROP and became the first Bulgarian documentary commissioned by HBO. It won The Best Debut Award at the Golden Rhyton Festival of Non-Feature Film (2010) and The Best Documentary Debut Award of the Bulgarian Film Academy (2011).

Dad Made Dirty Movies, Todorov's latest film, was shot in the US and tells the story of the legendary American erotic filmmaker Stephen C. Apostolof. The film is produced by AGITPROP in association with Filmtank (Hamburg), ZDF and Arte. Dad Made Dirty Movies premiered at the Visions du Réel International Film Festival in Nyon, Switzeralnd in April 2011. It won the Young Jury Award for Best Documentary at the 16th Sofia International Film Fest Film Fest (2012), as well as The Best TV Documentary Award of the Bulgarian Film Academy (2012).

As a journalist, Todorov has written for publications as diverse as L'Europeo, Vice, Abitare, Max and Amica. He was an editor for the Bulgarian edition of Rolling Stone magazine and a managing editor of Max magazine (Bulgaria).
