Vladimír Mináč (Slovakia)

Slovak film director and screenwriter. He graduated in History and Archaeology from the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava. In 1974-83 he was affiliated with the Slovak National Museum’s Institute of History and Archaeology. In 1984-91 he worked as a screenwriter and film director at the Short Film Studios and the Report Film Studios in Bratislava. He made nearly seventy shorts and report films – Magna Moravia, The Rise and Fall of the Great Moravian Empire, The Life and the Arts of Great Moravia, The Call of Home, The Spiš Castle, The Way to Understanding, Lost Memorials, They Call Them the English, Remembering Spain, and The Rebirth of M. R. Štefánik. In the 1990s, Mináč was the leading editor of several daily newspapers and weeklies, and later he worked at the Publishing and Information Agency of the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic. In 2001–2008 he worked as deputy editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine Slovenka. He is the co-author of the travelogue In the Land of Rubber Time (1986) and he published a number of scholarly articles, popular-scientific articles, and reports.
