Audio Tracks

In 1986 the filmmaker escaped the civil war with her family to the US, leaving her life in Lebanon behind. She revisits this troubled time through a personal archive of “audio cassette letters” exchanged between her and her friends back home. These tapes -filled with personal anecdotes, offer intimate insights into the lives of teenagers affected by war and their escape through the exchange of their favorite pop songs. By juxtaposing scenes from present day Lebanon with fragments of family testimonies and dream like sequences, this hybrid documentary journeys into the col- lective and personal memories of a traumatic past that still haunts the present. The film, which was shot a few months prior to the October 2019 Revolution, forebodes the country’s collapse soon after.
