In Israel, young men are drafted as soon as they become adult. They only begin their independent lives after 3 years of service while remaining in army reserve ready to be summoned to duty anytime. In March 2002, more fighting broke out and the director was assigned to the Alpha unit. For 30 days, he served in the occupied Palestinian territory, then returned to his civilian life to be deployed again in a year for another month. Thus for 5 years, a soldier keeps his diary capturing brutal images of night watches and the tedious life in the military barracks.
