Mental Troglodyte is a personal film commentary on the Czech presidential elections in 2013.

The process of voting for one or the other candidate functions merely as a background. The main focus is on the confrontation of two political positions – the necessity to vote for one of the two candidates as opposed to the option not to vote at all.

What’s at stake is the issue of the possibilities of political engagement and its limitations. However, the film stems from the political rhetoric itself. The grandiloquent language of the election, and its almost ridiculous fatalness, makes the impression of a reactionary cycloid. It also sets the rhythm to a mother’s cheerful walk with kids. In what way can presidential election affect our future? What role does the president play in our everyday lives?

It turns out that the rhetoric employed by these different positions in order to grasp the situation becomes entrapped. It is too much linked to its counterpart, whose artificially sustained monstrosity may in this case only be redeemed by Greedy Guts.
