Independent, thought-provoking, yet full of empathy. These are the films you’ll find in our latest curated programme, which we’ve compiled for your viewing pleasure as part of a special collaboration with the South Korean Jeonju Festival. We proudly present to you a screening of contemporary documentary productions made in the southern tip of the Korean peninsula.
Inaugurated in 2000 and presented to audiences as the first major festival on the Asian continent, Jeonju Festival is noted for having screened the early works of such master filmmakers as Darren Aronofsky and Béla Tarr. The festival has maintained its focus on independent work still to this day. Most of the films presented in the festival’s competition sections consist of either the first or second films of up-and-coming directors. As we’ve seen all throughout the history of cinema, documentary productions have repeatedly been the first to foreshadow new film trends and techniques, which is why you’ll find both feature-length films and documentaries side by side in the competition sections.
The festival’s true independent spirit can be felt not only in the festival programme itself, but also in our own selection of films. We’re casting the spotlight on rising stars in Korean documentary and independent film. Discover these treasures before the 22nd edition of this unique Korean film festival kicks off on April 29th.
This programme is brought to you by DAFilms Asia in cooperation with Jeonju IFF.
DAFilms.com is powered by Doc Alliance, a creative partnership of 7 key European documentary film festivals. Our aim is to advance the documentary genre, support its diversity and promote quality creative documentary films.
